Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix

Since it’s starting to turn cooler, I decided to go ahead and whip up some homemade hot chocolate mix. This is great to give as gift at Christmas. Place it in a jar and attach a little whisk and include a couple of mugs and voila, a inexpensive, yet thoughtful Christmas gift that everyone will love! My mom found this in a book she had and started making this mix when I started college, and ever since I can’t go back to the regular packets. This is so rich in flavor, but it’s low-fat as well! Bonus! Hope you enjoy it as much as we do! Oh, I should also mention that my mom has tried this with substitutes and different brands and said it was not good, so I reccomend not substituting anything-use the same brands and everything.

Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix

Ingredients:
1- 8 quart box Carnation Non-Fat Dry Milk
16 oz. box confectioner’s sugar
28 oz. jar of Cremora (found in the coffee aisle & may only come in 22 oz jars. If so use one 22 oz. jar and 1/4 of another jar)
2-12 oz. cans Ovaltine Rich Chocolate Mix

Directions:
In a large container with a lid or a 2 gallon ziploc bag, add all ingredients and seal container tightly.  Shake container until all ingredients are well combined and store in an airtight container. (Alternatively, you can make half a batch at a time if you don’t have a large enough container).

Directions for Drinking:
Heat water in a mug in the microwave for 1.5-2 minutes.

In a separate mug add 1/4 to 1/2 a cup of the hot chocolate mix (depending on how chocolatey you like it).  Pour water over mix and whisk together. Top with marshmallows or whipped cream & enjoy!
