Holiday Hints: Decorations

This week’s holiday hint is all about holiday decor. There are several things you can do that don’t cost a ton and look beautiful and festive.

Our theme is kind of like a candy winter wonderland. We have several peppermint/candy items combined with snowflake dishes.

The first year we were married I made a gumdrop tree. IUnfortunately I can’t find the picture of it. It was so cute but it took a while to make, so I haven’t done it again. It’s not hard just a little time consuming. You just need a styrofoam tree and straight pins. You stick the head of the straight pin into the bottom of the gum drop and then insert into the styrofoam tree. It makes a great centerpiece.
Sparkling ornaments in a serving bowl are a beautiful way to add elegance and shimmer to a room.

Putting out a festive dish filled with holiday m&m’s is one of my favorite ways to decorate. Plus you can eat them!

I also did this idea I saw in Martha Stewart Living. You take clothespins and adhere strips of wrapping paper and attach them to ribbon to hang your Christmas cards.
I also do several little trees as we don’t have enough ornaments to fill a big tree. It’s a great way to have the Christmas spirit all through the house. We do this tree in our living room. We have kind of a baking/candy theme along with ornaments from our travels and our first Christmas ornaments.

And then we put up these mini tabletop trees in the kitchen and our bedroom.

These hurricane lamps found here on Martha Stewart are really beautiful and sound easy to make. Photo courtesy of marthastewart.com

For one of the weddings that we planned when I worked for a wedding planning firm, we took hurricane vases, filled them with dry green split peas and inserted a pillar candle.

A bowl of beautiful oranges, lemons, limes or apples with a few sprigs of greenery tucked in is a great addition to your table as well.
While Adam & I were shopping last weekend in Atlanta we saw some champagne flutes filled with small Christmas ornaments and I thought they were such a cute idea for Christmas and New Years Decorations.
