San Francisco Attractions

As promised, here is a recap of our favorite San Francisco Attractions. You can find the Eats here & the Treats here that we enjoyed. Of course no trip to San Francisco is complete without seeing the Golden Gate Bridge. I was surprised how far away it was from everything. We did the tourist thing and took a double decker bus tour around the city and across the bridge, which I highly recommend. It gives you a great lay of the land plus they tell you lots of history about the city. I should mention that other than our double decker tour bus and cable car ride all of these attractions were free (excluding any food we decided to partake of). Also, this post is rather long but I didn’t want to leave anything out for those that might be traveling there in the future!

Saulsalito, such a cute little town, reminded me a lot of Europe.

Crossing the Bridge! So windy!!

The Palace of Fine Arts is a must see! Such breathtaking architecture and it seems to belong in Greece or Italy! This is the only building remaining from the World’s Fair in early 1900’s.

Coit Tower, the major (and I mean major) hike up here is so worth it because you have such gorgeous views of the city and of both the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges. The tower is in the shape of a fire hose for the first female firefighter in the city. She pretended to be a man for years but once they discovered her they let her stay. Pretty neat!

One of my favorite things, the Saturday Farmer’s Market at the Ferry Market Building. So much to explore and so much food to taste! The Ferry Market Building also has great restaurants and shops inside as well.

Gorgeous local blueberries at the Farmer’s Market

And of course we rode a cable car and hung out the side! So fun! Another great way to see the city and get some great pictures. I would recommend riding early in the morning because the lines can get quite crowded later in the day!

The famed Painted Ladies…is Uncle Jesse or DJ home??

Ghiardelli Square had great little shops and was so clean, and this is where we found Kara’s Cupcakes!

The Bay Bridge was equally as gorgeous as the Golden Gate! There was also neat sculptures along the waterfront as well as a great view of the city from the pier.

AT&T Park, where the Giants play. No we didn’t go to a game, but thanks to the guide book my friend Kathy lent me I found out that back behind the stadium by McCovey Cove is a dugout where you can watch up to 3 innings for free! So that’s what we did! It was so cool and you were right on the right field back wall. While we were there the Giants scored 2 runs and got into a pickle back and forth between 1st & 2nd. Very exciting.

Fisherman’s Wharf was neat to see, but I wouldn’t spend a ton of time here. The sea lions were cool, but they stunk to high heaven!!!

Looking up at the Crookedest Street, Lombard St. Can’t believe cars drive down that thing!

Fountain in Golden Gate Park, I’m pretty sure this was in the movie “The Wedding Planner” but I’m not 100 %.

Rose Garden in Golden Gate Park: they had so many different kinds of Roses and they were all so beautiful!

Last day in SF, walking along the Marina and making our way to view the bridge one last time.

Beach side view of the Golden Gate Bridge

And of course, part of the SF experience is hoofing it up the insanely steep heels, this picture does not do it justice, trust me!! I am in decent shape and I had to take a break halfway through!

View from Pacific Heights, walking is worth it!

All in all, we adored San Fran and can’t wait to go back! We also took a day trip to Monterey, Carmel & Pebble Beach which I would highly recommend.
