Strawberry on Top: Going for the Gold & A Few Confessions

So now that the Olympics are over and I’m not glued to the tv every waking minute, I’ve decided to cut back on my tv viewing. Y’all I think I’m going thru withdrawals! It was the hardest thing to turn it off last night and just talk and read! And everything I was wanting to watch was in the DVR meaning I can watch it anytime! I think I need an intervention!

What was your favorite Olympic moment? I loved the us gymnastics, Michael Phelps, Missy Franklin. But my favorite story might have to be David Boudia. I just love that he went from being the last to qualify for the semi-finals to winning the Gold medal!!

Speaking of Olympics, I’m trying to get back on track with my workouts. I went to spin class last night and it was an awesome teacher I haven’t had in a whole who is super hard core. The workout was so killer I had to channel my inner Missy Franklin & Kerri Walsh and envision myself going for the gold (complete with medal ceremony & national anthem-haha)! l know that sounds ridiculous but it actually helped me push through and finish strong!

Here are some more confessions about me:

I’m a keep working til it’s finished kind of person…which usually results in finding myself wrapping up a project at 2 am because I can’t bear to go to bed with it unfinished.

I know all the words to the high school musical 2 soundtrack & most of the hsm#3 too…I mean how can you not live Troy & Gabriella?! Plus it really has great music, I promise! Oh and I have to admit I was heartbroken to hear they broke up in real life!

I’ve been in a cooking rut lately. Most of our meals have been super simple, semi-homemade, (think blt or quesadilla) or takeout. How do you break out of a cooking slump? In other news, I have been back in the kitchen baking treats for Adams coworkers (recipes to come)!

Oh and in case you were wondering, the Bourne Legacy & Dark Knight Rises…totally worth the outrageous movie prices to see the awesome special effects and good story lines too (but definitely go to the matinee-cheaper & much less crowded). If you saw either what did you think?

  1. I’m totally with you on David Boudia! I love a good comeback story 🙂

  2. I wish I knew how to get out of cooking ruts – I’ve been in one lately too and it’s the strangest thing! For me it normally occurs right when we get back from vacation, but this time I think it’s the heat!

I liked Dark Knight (but it felt a little long to me…) and I haven’t seen Bourne Legacy yet, but my husband totally wants to see it. And seriously – movie ticket prices are insane!

    • I definitely think the heat plays a part too! Just don’t want to be over the hot oven or grill. I’m with you on the movie prices, so outrageous! We only venture to theater a few times a year for movies we’re just dying to see.

  3. Totally with you on the olympic withdrawals as well as the cooking slump! I usually go on Pinterest to help me find some new & exciting recipes to get me back into the swing of things 🙂

  4. To get out of cooking ruts, I go back to recipes I know well and then tweak them a little. If that doesn’t work, I go to other blogs (like yours!) and try and get inspiration. If none of that works, I find that one CD or iTunes playlist that I can lose myself in and just get to work blocking out everything else. I start my fall semester up again next week and know that I won’t be able to be in the kitchen as much, so I’m trying a bunch of new things this week. I also try and find excuses to bring stuff to people. I brought cookies for a coworker whose daughter just had surgery. There’s a birthday coming up next week… That kind of thing 🙂
And if none of that works, I’ll splurge on a new cookbook I’ve been eyeing for a few weeks/months and look through the whole thing and mark every page I want to try – usually color coding.

  5. I was in a cooking rut for a couple months awhile ago since I was on a very ultra strict elmination diet – even though I cook for people as a way to show them I care. I just didn’t want to cook much at all since I couldn’t taste it or eat it. My family was eating lots of sandwiches LOL. So once that was done I was baking and cooking everything it was crazy. My husband woke up one morning to 4 different kinds of muffins waiting thier turn to go into the oven. It was awesome! I think we all go through moods. Don’t worry about you. You are an amazing cook!

Yes movie prices are horrible. Yes my hubby and I saw the Dark Night twice. It was just as good the second time. I love the script and the relationships. I even cried at the same spot both times even though I knew it was coming. Yes, great advice about seeing it in the day time. We went at night the first time and it was so crowded we actually had to wait for the next showing since it had sold out. The second we went during the day and it was perfect.
