Strawberry on Top: Beach Vacation

So last week Adam & I got away with our dearest friends to the beach for one last day of summer.  We have been vacationing annually with them for about 5 years!:) We had a fabulous time! We went to Seacrest Beach which is located on 30 A in between Destin & Panama City. I think mid September may be the perfect time to go to the beach (as long as there are no hurricanes, of course).  The weather was GORGEOUS!! It was low to mid 80’s, so it was warm enough to lay out and get in the ocean and the pool, but not so sweltering hot & humid.  Plus, there weren’t a ton of people there, which was nice as well.  I think we may change our annual beach vacation to September instead of August from now on if we can!

One huge thing that happened, was we went to breakfast at the Donut Hole (go there!!) and then to the grocery and we pulled back into the beach house we were staying at and I saw a package at the door.  I asked Jennifer if she saw it and I said, “Is that…?” and I looked at her and she said  “Is that…?” and we both said “I think it is!”  Upon seeing the pink box covered with stars & swirls we knew immediately that it was from Georgetown Cupcake, of the DC Cupcakes show on TLC!! Our husbands suprised us by ordering us a dozen cupcakes all the way from DC and they overnighted them so we could enjoy them for the whole vacation!  They were so good! The cake of each flavor was moist and the icing was smooth and not too sugary.  Cupcake perfection! Each couple got 6 cupcakes and then we split each cupcake with our spouse.  So yes, we did eat them all! Over the course of several days of course!;)

We ate at a new to us spot this time in Destin called Louisiana Lagniappe (pronounced lan-yap).  It was so good! I definitely suggest eating outside on the deck, weather permitting.  It overlooks a marina and is so peaceful.  That made the whole experience that much greater.  We shared a couple of appetizers that were good, but not great, but then we got to the entree and boy was it great! We got their special that they’ve been making for 28 years. It’s grouper topped with a lump crab stuffing and wrapped in parchment paper and baked.  It was mouthwatering delicious.  The Grouper was perfectly cooked and the flavorings along with the texture of the stuffing just sent it over the top.  The portions were large and each entree comes with a side and salad, so I would definitely suggest sharing an appetizer and then share an entree.

We didn’t do a whole lot on this vacation, it was pretty much eat, go to the pool, eat, nap/read, beach or pool and then eat again!:) Such a fabulous relaxing vacation! Here are some of our vacations here from years past, including some of our favorite eats.

When you vacation do you plan a lot out or do you just go with the flow?

  2. How super sweet of him to get you some tasty cupcakes!!! What a fantastic beach vacation, and we’re a mix on vacation. I love planning a bunch of things to do but there are definitely some days where you just go with the flow. It totally depends on your mood (especially if there is good food to be eaten nearby!!).

  5. You picked the perfect time to come to the area, the tourists usually start clearing out in late August! I live in Fort Walton Beach, which is about 30 minutes away from Destin. The Donut Hole is a local favorite! Next time you come down you should try Another Broken Egg Cafe! Also, Harbor Docks is a favorite as well!!

  6. Yes, Destin is gorgeous, love it! Glad you had a great vacation… 🙂

  7. It looks like y’all had a wonderful vacation–that was so thoughtful of your husbands to special order cupcakes for y’all to have!

Sadly, I haven’t been to the beach since we moved away from Alabama a few years ago so I will live vicariously through you! I’ve never been to the Donut Hole, so whenever we do make it back to the beach, I’ll be sure to make a stop there.
