Baylor’s Birth Story

No recipe this week but I thought I would share with you a little about when Baylor was born and also share some of our newborn photo shoot pictures. At 37 Weeks, I was dilated to 4 cm and 80% effaced and my Dr. thought I could go into labor at any time. I tried walking and elliptical and squats & lunges to no avail. Fast Forward to 38 1/2 weeks and my dr. stripped my membranes and that afternoon I started having contractions 10-15 minutes apart regularly for a few hours. Then they started getting further apart and more sporadic unfortunately.

So I went into work the next day and had a few contractions but still nothing close enough together. I went into the Dr. Friday morning (now 39 Weeks) and he said I was 5 cm and 90% effaced and said we could go over to the hospital and start pitocin and break my water. I was beyond ready and so uncomfortable so I wholeheartedly agreed! Plus, I live 30 minutes away from the hospital and was afraid we might not make it to the hospital being that far progressed if I went back home.

So we got all checked in and they got me all hooked up and started a small dose of pitocin and I stared having regular contractions. They came in and checked me and I was at 6 cm and they asked if I wanted to go ahead and have the epidural, which I most certainly did, haha! They got that put in and then my dr. came in and broke my water around noon. All of our family arrived and they came in to visit for a bit and then I started getting really dizzy and light headed so they gave me a popsicle and some sprite and that helped.

My contractions started getting closer to 2 minutes apart and I started feeling more pressure. They checked me around 2:45 or so and I was at 9cm and she said if I started feeling a lot more pressure to call for them. About 15 minutes later I felt lots of pressure so she came in and checked and told me to try a test push. I did and she said, whoa let’s stop and call your dr, it’s time! My dr. came in and got me ready and within 5 minutes Baylor was here at 3:30 pm! They put him right on me and got him all cleaned up and we did the skin to skin time. Such a miracle!

Sophie was the first visitor to come in and meet Baylor and we had a special time with just the four of us for a short bit before all the grandparents came in. She is so in love with her baby brother and is a great big sister! She is a big helper and loves to go get diapers or give him his paci. Sometimes she loves him a little too much, haha!
