This is a recipe that my mom has been making for years and years. It tastes wonderful and is so comforting on a cold winter’s night. It uses two ingredients and is so simple, but has a great depth of flavor. She always makes this every Christmas and also recently made this for a gathering and said I could post it to my blog. So, Thanks Mom!:) Try it for a crowd or you could halve the recipe for a smaller group. This is one you will definitely go back to for a second cup!

Hot Apple Cider
Source: My mom

Ingredients:
1/2 gallon Apple Juice (only use 100% juice)
1/3 cup red hots candy

Directions:
In a large stock pot, add juice and red hots and cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally until all red hots melt. Reduce to low and simmer for serving. Add cinnamon sticks or oranges for garnish, if desired.

I love mulled cider. Does this recipe work with cider as well? It would be a good substitute for when I can't find good mulling spices.

Lindsey-I'm sure it would work fine with cider, it will just be a little thicker.

Oh, we put red-hots in apple cider too! It's a "recipe" my mother-in-law passed to us. Yum!
